Greetings Readers of The Reader!
My name is Bill Grennan, your fearless contributing editor for all things theatre! I’ve been an active member of this wonderful community for over a decade, earning degrees from both Creighton University (BFA in Performance Theatre) and UNO (Master’s in Acting and Non-Profit Business Administration) while working with many wonderful organizations like the Omaha Community Playhouse, Blue Barn Theatre, Shelterbelt & SNAP Productions, The Candy Project, Great Plains Theatre Conference, and many more.
Working in and around this community has provided me with so many wonderful experiences both personally and professionally. I owe much of my life’s successes to the wisdom, tools, and relationships developed through the Omaha theatre community.
Joining this publication was the result of a serendipitous meeting with Publisher/Editor John Heaston at Blue Line Coffee about two years ago. I met with him to discuss a different project and afterwards, he mentioned that Warren Francke was retiring and scaling back his role at The Reader and that they needed a new theatre writer. Two years later, here I am with several columns, features, and cover stories under my belt!
My personal focus at The Reader is to find the great stories behind the productions around town, to inform readers about upcoming shows, and, with Cold Cream, to provide an insight into what it takes to get a production up and running. As an active participant in the community I write about, my hope is to be a voice for Omaha theatre while helping to facilitate other people’s voices and opinions in the hopes of strengthening the city’s already deep-rooted foundation.
I won’t be the only one covering theatre for The Reader. Look for great reviews and weekly picks from Gordon Spencer, features from Leo Adam Biga, and the occasional piece from Mr. Franke. Our transition to a daily digital format will allow us the ability to generate even more great content than in years past.
But this is not meant to be a one-way conversation. We also want to hear from Readers just like you! Have an idea for a piece you want us to run? Want to let us know about your upcoming production or project? We want to hear from you! Email me at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together we can continue to cultivate inspiring and informative conversations about the artform we love so dearly.
