- It’s not enough that Ryan Reynolds has sarcasm and abs sharp enough to cut you, but now he’s never going to die. Forget how stalkerish that sounds and focus on the following: Highlander is getting a remake possibly featuring Captain Sassy Abs. Aside from the tsunami of “I thought there could be only one” jokes, the thing to focus on is who will play the Sean Connery role. My vote is for Christopher Lambert. The cycle is now complete.
- Guillermo Del Toro, who has had approximately one billion projects in various shades of development without actually having made a film in almost five years, is supposedly moving full-steam ahead on a 3D stop-motion animated take on Pinocchio. It’s going to be slightly darker. And by slightly darker, I mean Nick Cave is doing the music, and Christopher Walken and Tom Waits are on his wish list for the voice acting. A darker, more stylish take on a fairy tale subject? Somewhere, Tim Burton is yelling at a gothic mirror that Johnny Depp is holding, yelling “You told me I was the fairest of them all!” while Danny Elfman hums in the corner.
- A dear and lovely friend of mine, Tessie, is currently obsessed with all things Neverland. And I mean Peter Pan and not the Michael Jackson (alleged) molestation factory. FYI: The word alleged makes that last joke sue-proof! At any rate, I’ll be eager to see how she reacts to news that Peter and the Starcatchers, a movie based on a Pan prequel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, is going to hit screens in the very near future. It will either delight her to see more of that world or infuriate her. My vote is infuriated if she’s familiar with the limp and tame work of Dave Barry.
