This is another event-packed week for roots music. Veteran Omaha bassist Craig Balderston (of The 9s, Brad Cordle Band and Brad Hoshaw & The Seven Deadlies) had his bass rig stolen recently. There is a benefit Sunday, July 28, 3-7 p.m. at The 21st Saloon to raise funds to help Balderston replace his gear. Through the efforts of former Blues Society of Omaha president, former local venue owner and Balderston’s friend Terry O’Halloran, donations are also being accepted online at youcaring.com/other/craig-balderston-benefit/74054.

It is a big weekend for local music with Travelling Mercies and The Decatures sharing a CD release party at The Waiting Room on Saturday, July 27, 9 p.m. Also performing are Rock Paper Dynamite and Matt Cox. Travelling Mercies celebrates the official release of their new disc, Motel, finished with a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year. The CD captures The Mercies’ impassioned electric troubadour folk and gypsy rock sound, amping up mighty fine original songs. The Decatures mix up hard-edged rock with blues and surf influences. This young band’s new disc is Fat Kid LP.
