Promoter Jeff Davis announces a change in venue and dates for Playing with Fire as part of the free concert series’ 11th year. Two free concerts will be presented at Midtown Crossing’s Turner Park with 5:30 p.m. starts. Thursday, June 26, Davis hosts Ben Poole and Jonas & The Massive Attraction. Thursday, July 3, spotlights Randy Oxford Band and The Madame Louise Project.
Soul of John Black
One show you might not have on your radar is the Soul of John Black at Lincoln’s Zoo bar Thursday, March 6, 9 p.m. Frontman John Bigham aka John Black has worked with Miles Davis, Dr. Dre and was guitarist/keyboard player for Fishbone for eight years. The band’s 2013 disc, A Sunshine State of Mind (Yellow Dog Records), won rave reviews from tastemakers like The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and National Public Radio. Lincoln’s Zoo Bar features a three-night run by Austin’s Billy Bacon. The Zoo favorite has shows Thursday, March 6, 6 p.m., Friday, March 7, 9 p.m., and celebrates Bacon’s 50th birthday with a 5 p.m. show Saturday, March 8. Filling out the Zoo schedule are the always rockin’ Mezcal Brothers Friday, March 7, 5-7 p.m., and Lucas Kellison Saturday, March 8, 9 p.m.

Samantha Fish plays a special Tuesday early show Tuesday, March 11, 6-9 p.m. Her fall 2013 disc, Black Wind Howlin’ (Ruf Records), was her latest collaboration with Mike Zito as producer. Nick Moss is up on Wednesday, March 12, 6-9 p.m. Moss is a 16-time Blues Music Award nominee with a new disc, Time Ain’t Free (Blue Bella), out March 18.
