Painter Ashley Spitsnogle is exhibiting fourteen of her Italian-inspired paintings and drawings in the Governor’s Residence in Lincoln thru September 24. The Residence opens the gallery in the Convention Room Thursdays, 1-4pm and by appointment. The Omaha-based artist is hosting a reception August 29, 5-6pm. Omaha based artists Derek Courtney and Mike Scheef, known for curating shows at Hot Shops for 7/7/07, 8/8/08, 11/11/11 etc., are converting a former beauty salon space into an art space, Caesium Gallery, at 4656 S. 60th Ave. They will celebrate the transformation Aug. 31, 7-10pm with an opening of a display of old, new, and never-before-seen works from Courtney, Scheef and others, “priced affordably to help them pay the rent.” Future shows include local and national artists and a 12/12/12 exhibit. The name stems from the initials of the founders.
Sept. 5, 8:30pm at Indian Oven, artist Phil Hawkins gives a public talk on his abstract drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, archival printing, and design including hors d’oeuvres and craft cocktails. His work will be up at the restaurant thru September 23.
The last formal show for Gallery 72 at its 2709 Leavenworth location, “Two Kinds of Home: The Life and Works of Myron Heise," was curated and organized by The Museum of Nebraska Art as an ARTreach program touring the state of Nebraska. The exhibit includes 11 cityscapes and images of New York paintings by the Bancroft, Nebraska native and New York City resident. The reception is Sept. 7, 5-9pm and the exbiit runs thru Sept. 30. In Hot Shops, environmental artist Charlene Potter opens “Into the Future With Open Eyes,” September 1 featuring her organic inspired ceramic work in the Alley Gallery. Coincidingly in the Nicholas Street Gallery, Steven Miljavec opens a solo show of his photography. Both exhibits will have a reception Sept. 8, 6-9p.m. hotshopsartcenter.com.
