Caveman build songs on a ton of of-the-moment indie rock signifiers, putting trebly guitar lines, light bits of floating '80s synth, ethereal, echoey production and click-clacking percussion. So forgive yourself if the band's 2011 debut album, CoCo Beware, puts images of other indie rock notables like the Shins, Grizzly Bear or Vampire Weekend in your head. Just note that there's enough restlessness to the band's sound that it suggests the similarities are bred more of familiarity than imitation. Caveman finds its greatest successes when they lock into a beat and deliver tuneful, direct indie pop like their debut's standout track "Vampirer".
