Drawn To Fashion: The Illustrations of Mary Mitchell
UNL Hillestad Textiles Gallery
35th & Holdrege St.,
5 p.m., FREE
Throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s, Mary J. Mitchell’s skill as a fashion illustrator earned her such Omaha clients as Topp’s, Goldstein Chapman, Herzbergs, Zoobs, Parsow's and Wolf Brothers, flourishing her career during a period when fashion illustration's role was critical to successful commerce in everything from haute couture to ready-to-wear, and when Omaha's fashion merchants helped to define the meaning of style in the heartland. Her artwork, garments from her historic costume collection, and models for select illustrations will be featured in an exhibition co-curated by Professors Michael James and Barbara Trout at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery as UNL announces the dedications of the Mary Mitchell Fashion Studio. The gallery is free to the public and will be open until November 30th.
