Grace Potter and the Nocturnals got a big taste of success when 2010's "Paris (Oh La La)" became a summer radio staple. The song and the self-titled record that featured the song delivered classic rock and blues rock influences with a little dose of radio rock sheen. Now on 2012's The Lion The Beast The Beat, Potter and her band continue their successful foray from under-the-radar bluesy alternative rockers to vibrant modern rockers. Lead single "Never Go Back" rides on a funk rock groove highlighting Janis Joplin-inspired rock vocals. The Vermont band first rose to prominence after getting airplay on local station WNCS in 2005. Hollywood Records signed the band after that, letting the band cut its teeth on the jam band circuit, alongside acts like the Black Crowes and the Dave Matthews Band.
