The mash-up phenomenon exploded when Girl Talk hit the scene and in 2007, two friends from Chicago decided they could do it, too. So they put up a music blog and called it The Hood Internet. Six years later, Steve Reidell (STV SLV) and Aaron Brinx (ABX) have boiled down mash-ups into an exact science. Taking indie rock and, often times, “crunk” rap, they smoosh them together, a formula which has ignited dance parties all over the world. They are still going strong and recently released the seventh volume of their mixtape. Their first album of original material, Feat, was released late last year, but it’s not something they are sure they’d like to do again. According to Reidell, “it was a very laborious process.” Nonetheless, Reidell brings The Hood Internet to the live stage with such precision that nobody cares about a recorded album. The live shows and free mixtapes on their website are the only things you need to enjoy The Hood Internet experience. –Kyle Eustice
