- Lance Armstrong may have copped a squat on the world of competitive cycling, but he didn’t ruin Aksarben Cinema’s support for bikes in general. On Feb. 21 at 6 pm, the cineplex-that-beats-the-rest will be showing Reveal the Path, which sounds like Gandalf’s dialogue but is really a film that “contemplates what it means to live an inspired life using the bicycle as a mechanism to explore, dream and discover.” This is, of course, in contrast to Armstrong’s use of a bicycle to “lie, cheat and achieve untold levels douchebaggery.” This event is presented by Omaha Pedalers Bicycle Club, and tickets are $10 (available at aksarbencinema.com). Come out and show them your support. It’s been a very hard few months for cycle-enthusiasts and they could use some love.
- Hey, you remember The Rave Theater right? Well, it no longer exists. Sort of. The theater at the Westroads is dead. Long live the theater at Westroads! AMC Theatres is now in charge, bringing their…unique…blend of management to what is now the AMC Westroads 14 (amctheatres.com/movie-theatres/amc-westroads-14). Obviously, the biggest change as far as I’m concerned is that AMC continues to put the “R” in theater before the “E,” I’m pretty sure just to spite me.
- Hold on to your Mogwai, Warner Bros. wants to kick fans right in the Gizmo, as they have announced plans to remake (or at least relaunch) Gremlins. As an unrepentant defender of Gremlins 2, I can tell you that the series is not one that should be treated with stiff reverence or viewed as untouchable. Have at it! Remake it up! My only requests are that they (A) have at least some plastic-looking puppets and not all CGI and (B) one-up the grandma-on-the-electric-stairs bit. I have faith it can be done.
