Sept. 29 Retribution Gospel Choir Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St., 9 p.m., $10, myspace.com/retributiongospelchoir With an upbeat, yet melodic and psychedelic medley, Retribution Gospel Choir adds to the ingenious consistency of great bands released by Sub Pop Records over the last three decades. With songs like “Hide It Away” and “Working Hard,” the three-piece outfit forms a sound with obvious hard rock influences while keeping its indie credentials. If the voice and rhythm sound a dash familiar, it could be that Alan Sparhawk and Steve Garrington of the band Low are at the helm for this side project reviewed as having one of the best album debuts of this year. Sparhawk and Garrington have been at it since ’93, so this show is definitely a venture with two of indie rock’s longstanding and prodigal sons.
