June 9-13 Santa Lucia Festival Parking Lot at Rick’s Boatyard Café Free admission, check site for event times, santaluciafestival.com, 402-342-6632 Deep to Omaha’s history are the Italian immigrants — to the point where our sleepy city has its own historical “Little Italy” near the Old Market. The Santa Lucia Festival has sought to preserve this heritage and the delicious cuisine that comes with it in the Omaha community. Named after a traditional Italian song, the goal is cultural preservation with some live music thrown in for good measure. History is incorporated into the proceedings, as is a coronation of a Santa Lucia Festival Queen, typically a slightly less awkward affair than, say, Miss America. Due to flooding, the event has been moved from Lewis & Clark Landing to the parking lot of Rick’s Boatyard Café.
