Beers to Cure The Blind

If you needed another reason to enjoy a cold craft beer on a hot August day, head to Werner Park this Saturday for The Great Nebraska Beer Fest! A portion of proceeds from ticket sales to this event will go to UNMC’s Global Blindness Prevention Division. For every $20 donated, the surgeons are able to restore the vision of a person who otherwise would remain needlessly blind for the rest of their life. With 90 breweries on site and Ahman Green signing autographs until 3, this event will be well worth the $44 ticket price. Are you interested in coming out and learning about all of the breweries and checking out the vendors, but want to stay down to drive? Designated driver discount gets you in the door for only $11! Move quickly- VIP tickets sold out in July!

Submit your favorite original recipe (which must consist of at least ¾ vegetables) to srupp@Hy-Vee.Com by September 1st, along with name, number of servings per recipe, and preparation time. Store officials will choose finalists, whose recipes will be prepared and sampled out for customers to vote on September 12. Julio’s Says So-Long

After 38 years in the Old Market, Julio’s will be closing their doors on August 29th. The separately owned location at 123rd and Center will remain open and continue offering weekly specials like Tequila Tuesdays and ½ off Margaritas on Wednesdays. Former employees have started an “I worked at Julios” group on Facebook to reminisce about the restaurant’s nearly 4 decades. With 10 days left, head down and say farewell to this Downtown Omaha Tex-Mex treasure.
