The Gift of Hope
With the holiday fast approaching, several area pantries have held food drives, hosted drop centers, and taken part in galas and benefits to stay ahead of the growing need in Omaha. One such pantry, Heartland Hope Ministries, finds itself far short of the expected need with only days to make up the deficit. The organization expects approximately 5,400 hungry Nebraskans this year, up 43% from last year. Heartland Hope helps bridge the gap for people struggling after illness or job loss, people whose families often have to choose between keeping the heat on or keeping food on the table.
