Living Loess Tour

Take a scenic route through the beautiful Loess Hills and stop to visit local farms and artists along the way. Self-guided tours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the third Sunday of every month from May-October. Garden Grove Eatery, Gallaher Designs, Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek Creamery, Loess Hills Lavender and Sawmill Hollow Family Farm are some of the businesses along the tour. New Urban Garden in Elkhorn

Many west Omaha neighborhoods have covenants that prohibit growing a vegetable garden in homeowner yards. Those afflicted with such a situation now have cause to celebrate. The New Omaha Garden Park, a 40-acre community garden just south of Dodge Street on 192nd Street is open for plot rental. For more information visit www.omahagardens.org

Launch of Edible Omaha

April saw the launch of Edible Omaha, a new magazine focused on celebrating and exploring regional food, farms and flavors. Amy Brown and Lucy Wilson, co-publish the quarterly magazine, which is part of the national Edible Communities family. The next edition will be on the streets in mid-July.

Kickstarter for Growing Cities

Growing Cities, a documentary that examines urban farming in America is ready to enter post-production. The filmmakers, Omahans Dan Susman and Andrew Monbouquette, are trying to raise $35,000 by May 16 via Kickstarter, an online fundraising platform. As of publication they have raised $15,359, but to get any of it, they have to raise all of it.
