A Native Celebration

The 24th annual Fort Omaha Powwow will take place this Saturday, September 12 from 1pm-7:30 pm. Food vendors will be on-hand for the inter-tribal event, which is free and open to the public. This year’s theme is ‘Caretakers of the Earth’. The schedule of events includes a gourd dance, a ‘Birds of Prey’ presentation, Split Feather Syndrome and Dream Catchers study circles, princess contest, and much more! Champions of Breakfast, Unite!

September is National Breakfast Month, and Thomas brand is celebrating with a breakfast challenge! Omaha chef Matt Bohnenkamp of Harold’s Koffee House will represent Omaha in the Battle of the Breakfast sandwich. 135 chefs from 135 cities for the 135th anniversary of Thomas English Muffins will compete in the national competition. Voting opens on September 14 and fans will have just 2 weeks to vote Bohnenkamp into the next round of competition, at which point the pool of competitors narrows from 135 to just 16 chefs! Head to the restaurant to get a taste of “Harold’s Homerun Breakfast Sandwich” and then go to the website (which will go live for voting on September 14) to “egg” Matt on!

Say Cheese!

Whole Foods Market is celebrating their 10th anniversary and offering the first 100 registrants access to the free event “Global Gathering of Cheese Lovers”.  Pre-registration to the event  (which takes place next Tuesday evening) is required by calling 402-393-1200. Live Jazz, wine pairings, and special event-pricing at a pop-up cheese boutique will be available for this exciting Tuesday night at the market!

Beer, Brats, and a Big Brass Band will be on hand Friday, September 18 and Saturday the 19th for Oktobertfest German Day Celebration. Join the German-American Society for some Kraut and culture at 3717 S 120th Street. A men’s and ladies beer drinking competition will take place amid the music, dancing, and a cultural souvenir booth.
