• Ever since Kickstarter.com was kicked out of the Internet’s womb, there have been endless film projects of various levels of consequence that have sought funding there; thus, it takes a lot to get my attention. But you know what gets my attention? Pickles. This is why I want to steer you towards The Persian Pickle Club, which you can help make a reality by going to their page at kickstarter.com/projects/ppc-kickstarter/the-persian-pickle-club. Best of all, this is an Omaha production! That’s right, these pickles are home grown! At the site above, you can watch a trailer for this adaptation of a novel by the same name about a quilting club who get wrapped up in a murder mystery, which I believe is how all good quilting clubs end. So don’t be dill, help fund this project and be as cool as a cucumber. I’m done now.
  • “Visionary” director and sometimes Hitler apologist Lars von Trier is ready to make nice, announcing his next movie is a children’s film about a bunny who learns the meaning of friendship. I kid; he’s preparing Nymphomaniac, which will span the entire “erotic life” of a woman “from the age of zero to the age of 50.” Because that’s a lot of uncomfortable material to cover, Trier is splitting the film into two parts. The first will cover “her childhood and adolescence,” and the second will cover her adulthood. Because if there’s a way to get back into society’s good graces, it’s announcing an entire film about the sexual life of an adolescent.
  • Tom Cruise’s next movie won’t be Mission Impossible 5 but rather Top Gun 2. While little is known about the plot, I’ll be over in the corner praying that the subtitle is The Revenge of Goose, in which an angry, badly burned Anthony Edwards exacts his vengeance for being left for dead. And he does so…on the volleyball court.
