• The Mary Riepma Ross Theater (theross.org) in Lincoln has a thirst for blood so big a single screen can’t contain it. On Thursday, April 5 at 7 pm, Unfiltered Entertainment, which is a Lincoln-based production company, will hold the premiere of their feature-length horror film Blood Rites on not one but two screens, enough to hopefully accommodate the hordes of horror buffs looking to catch the free showing. Co-written and directed by Dorothy Booraem, one of the rare ladies who care to create cinema carnage in this genre, the film features lots of Nebraska actors and locations, which is exactly where I want to see horrible, nightmare-inducing images take place. It saves me the trouble of imagining them happening in my hometown by actually taking place in my hometown. Yippee?
  • Some call it a genre, some call it simply a style, I call it simply delicious; you hear me, dame? Film Streams (filmstreams.org) is kicking off April with all the femme fatales and slick dicks you could dream up, as they’re launching Film Streams Noir. The repertory series will feature such iconic works as The Maltese Falcon and The Killers, which makes this fella happier than a private investigator with a new fedora. For more information, check out the site and make plans to catch these classic hardboiled works of cinema before they catch you in the act!
  • As we slouch ever closer to our inevitable December apocalypse, I give you the latest step towards our planetary demise. Twins is getting a sequel…called Triplets…and Eddie Murphy will be the third brother alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. If this movie premieres and the world doesn’t end, I promise you, we’ll be begging for Armageddon.
