* Local indie act Millions of Boys will unveil their first release, Competing For Your Love, later this month on Kansas City-based Golden Sound Records. Millions of Boys consists of singer Honey & Darling’s Sara Bertuldo, drummer Ryan Haas and Alex van Beaumont. The album will come out digitally Dec. 20, with a physical edition on 10-inch vinyl coming out early next year. The band will celebrate the release with a show Saturday, Jan. 21st at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. Powerslop, Empty Spaces and Dads open the show. In addition to Empty Spaces, Golden Sound is also home to frequent Omaha visitors Everyday/Everynight.
* Baby Tears will follow up their newly-pressed Rainy Road Records single “Homeless Corpse” with a 2012 full-length release Rusty Years on Doom Town Records. The 10-song album will only be available on cassette. However, those looking for the release now can download or stream it at soundcloud.com/baby-tears/sets/rusty-years. Baby Tears will be selling the new single at their next show, which is Friday, Dec. 16 at O’leaver’s Pub, 1322 S. Saddle Creek Road. The F**king Party opens. The two bands will also hit the road for four dates from Jan. 4 to Jan. 7.
* Speaking of the F**king Party, the scrappy, sloppy punk band will take their noisy hardcore-influenced act on the road with fellow Omaha act Yuppies to round out 2011. The two bands head out Monday, Dec. 26 and travel the Midwest until New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, Yuppies continue to record, with plans to finish a full-length record next year.
* Inspired by old gatherings at now-demolished midtown bar the 49’r, show promoter Lori Tatreau will gather local musicians together monthly to share original and traditional acoustic tunes. The Hootenanny series will feature food and all proceeds will be donated to various non-profits. The first in the series is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Waiting Room Lounge with performances by Ted Stevens, Matt Cox, Lee Meyerpeter, Prairie Gators, Kate Williams & Lincoln Dickison and Great American Desert.
* Experimental instrumental metal band Back When is about to emerge from their cocoon anew with their new album Champion Hologram. The album was recorded locally at Enamel with ex-Faint drummer Clark Baechle and features guest appearances by Ted Stevens, Jonathan Purcell and Laura Burhenn. It’s the band’s first release since 2005. The hour-long, 12-song record will be feted with a release show Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Slowdown.
