Last night’s South By Southwest festivities obviously were overshadowed by what sounds like a fairly terrible scene outside two of SXSW’s most popular venues on Red River Street. For those who didn’t read yet, a driver eluding a police stop crashed into pedestrians waiting on a barricaded street to enter the Mohawk. The AustinChronicle.com website has more details on that. I was in the area only minutes prior, having cut short my viewing of Kurt Vile’s set at Cheer Up Charlie’s. The street was packed at that time, as it usually is on a SXSW night. My thoughts go out to those injured and killed by this incident. Sounds like SXSW organizers may move events at both those venues, both as a respectful move and as it may continue to be an investigated crime scene throughout the day.
