Minneapolis keyboard man and songwriter Scottie Miller takes the stage this week at The 21st Saloon. Blues Revue magazine raves that Miller “sounds like Dr. John meets The Band at Bruce Springsteen’s house.” KPFT in Houston says “Scottie Miller is a world-class lyricist with working-class sensibilities…This cat’s got the goods.” When he’s not fronting his own band, Miller plays keyboards for Austin’s Ruthie Foster. Check out Miller’s exhilarating blues, soul and funk grooves at The 21st Saloon Thursday, Dec. 15, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Sunday Roadhouse Cookbook

Not many people get to see their dreams come true more than once. In 2003 Gary Grobeck and Dean Dobmeier launched the highly successful Sunday Roadhouse concert series. They have brought the best national Americana artists to Omaha for many amazing shows. Along the way Grobeck started catering homestyle bar-b-q meals for the Roadhouse crowd. Another dream of Grobeck’s is realized this weekend with the release of the book Peckerwood Bar-B-Q: Cuisine of the Sunday Roadhouse. It contains Grobeck’s favorite original and reshared recipes along with photos of beloved musicians taken at Roadhouse shows and in Austin venues. The book release is Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Side Door Lounge, 35th Ave. & Leavenworth., 3-6 p.m. Admission is $20 per person/$25 per couple, including a complimentary copy of the book and free Bar-B-Q dinner. A professionally recorded 2003 video of one of the Roadhouse’s favorite acts, The Hacienda Brothers featuring the late Chris Gaffney, will be screened about 4 p.m.
