Although the name Marijuana Deathsquads evokes a heavy metal or stoner rap-rock band, the Minneapolis-based group actually creates beautifully layered, electronic soundscapes with an unrelenting, infectious energy. Marijuana Deathsquads formed in 2009 out of the ashes of hardcore band, Building Better Bombs. Comprised of lead singer Isaac Gale, Stefon Alexander (better known as P.O.S. of Doomtree), Ryan Olson, Ben Ivascu, Mark McGee, Jeremy Nutzman, and Drew Christopherson, Marijuana Deathsquads is currently on tour in support of its latest effort, Oh My Sexy Lord. The album was put out last year by their own imprint, Totally Gross National Product, which Spin magazine called “ferocious” and described as fusing “jagged grooves, scratchy analog effects, and robo-warped vocals into a full-length, experimental freakout.” —Kyle Eustice
