Another summer of shows is on the horizon and once again, open-air venues are set to rule from now until the end of September.

Stir Cove at Harrah’s Casino in Council Bluffs will remain a busy summertime concert location, roping in a range of acts book-ended by indie pop act the Shins performance Thursday, May 31st and country icon Dwight Yoakam’s Friday, September 28th show.

Stir continues to bank on variety, with this summer’s highights including dates with the Avett Brothers on Tuesday, July 3rd, a homecoming show for 311 on Friday, July 6th, rising country star Jamey Johnson Friday, July 13th, alternative rockers Weezer Sunday, July 29th, and soulful 80s hitmakers Hall & Oates Friday, September 7th.

Red Sky Music Festival returns to the TD Ameritrade Park, 1200 Mike Fahey St., from Wednesday, July 18th to Saturday, July 21st. Details for the entire scope of the second edition of the festival continue to be scarce, but three of the four headliners have been anounced.

Rascal Flatts starts the event on Wednesday and fellow country music chart-topper Brad Paisley takes the main stage on Friday. Saturday’s show packs a trio of ’80s hair metal/hard rock acts, with Def Leppard headlining a bill with Poison and Lita Ford.

A headliner for Thursday, July 19th has yet to be announced, nor have any bands for the opening events. Whether Red Sky once again offers a slate of bands to play outside on the parking lots around TD Ameritrade Park is still unannounced.

Meanwhile, Omaha’s big day-long indie music show, the Maha Music Festival, once again returns to Stinson Park at Aksarben Village, near South 67th and Center streets, on Saturday, August 11th. Conor Oberst headlines with a reunion of his political punk project Desaparecidos, alongside alternative rock icons Garbage, for the music festival’s fourth year.

In late July, the Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln also joins the outdoor concert fray, with a Saturday, July 28th show headlined by the Counting Crows. That kicks off a run of four or five shows set to take place at the amphitheater this summer.

Marquee indoor shows include blues-rocker the Black Keys at Mid-America Center, 1 Arena Way, in Council Bluffs Wednesday, August 1st and the return of the Faint, Saturday, August 18th at the Slowdown, 729 North 14th St. Indie folk-rocker Andrew Bird plays the Peter Kiewit Concert Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St., Monday, August 20th and new jazz starlet Esperanza Spaulding hits the stage there Friday, September 28th. Meanwhile, bluesy rocker Bonnie Raitt plays the Orpheum Theater, 409 South 16th St., Friday, August 24th.
