The group fighting against a recall election of Mayor Jim Suttle has released videos they say shows petitioners engaging in illegal activity. Forward Omaha posted five videos on its website Dec. 2, one day after a district judge denied an injunction request from Suttle seeking to extend the signature verification deadline by 60 days. The group says the videos provide proof of circulators misrepresenting the amount of the city’s restaurant tax, admitting to being paid by the signature, failing to read the mayor’s statement on the recall and claiming the cost of a recall election would be paid for by private and federal funds — all of which could be violations of state law. Judge Peter Bataillon set a Dec. 20 hearing date to investigate these allegations of fraud. The Douglas County Election Commission is expected to announce the results of its signature verification on Dec. 4.
