- Following a cancellation and delay, Omaha’s Cinco de Mayo festival returns from Friday, June 11, through Sunday, June 13.
- Omaha’s Warren Buffett — one of the richest people in the world — pays only a small fraction of his income taxes, according to a viral ProPublica report.
- For six years, Sprint has been overcharging customers in Omaha. Now Sprint has incurred a $50,000 fine.
- The revamped and relocated facility for Omaha’s Munroe-Meyer Institute, which assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, hosts a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
- The city will review, and potentially remove, 16 traffic signals.

What’s Happening In Your Local Government
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and City Council met on Tuesday, June 8.
- The Douglas County Board of Commissioners allocates an additional $200,000 to financial services company Deloitte to help the county distribute $110 million it received from the American Rescue Plan. Despite opposition from multiple commissioners, Deloitte will continue services until the end of the year.
- Dr. Adi Pour of the Douglas County Health Department says the county has “a good shot” of administering vaccines to at least 70% of its adults, but progress has slowed in recent weeks.
- The Omaha City Council holds the first meeting with its three newly elected members. The City Council officially recognizes June 19 as Juneteenth with a proclamation from Councilmember Juanita Johnson of District 2.

Located on 25th Street in South O, El Museo Latino opened its doors on May 5, 1993. It’s one of about 20 Latino museums in the United States, and it offers many events and exhibits that aim to connect communities. On top of being a fascinating meeting place, it’s also an educational center that offers programs for kids, adolescents and adults.
El Museo Latino is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. General admission is $5.
