More than 100 people showed up at St. Anthony Methodist Church on Nov. 12 to help block a protest during the funeral for Omaha South High School teacher Stacey Klinger. The Kansas based Westboro Baptist Church announced last week that its members planned to picket Klinger’s funeral, saying the teacher, who died in a traffic accident Nov. 3, was “cut off by an angry God for teaching rebellion to the youth of this nation.” The group has become notorious for its funeral pickets, taking the view that military deaths, natural disasters and other tragedies are divine retribution for a “wicked nation. (hippainhelp.com) ” A group of counter protestors lined up along 150th and West Maple with sheets to block funeral goers from the picketers. Police at the scene said the WBC set up nearly 300 feet away from the church and left without incident.
