The Stories That Defined Our 2020

It’s been an honor to inform you throughout (and let’s say it together) an unprecedented year. We look forward to doing the same for years to come. If you enjoy our journalism or want to help fund its future, please consider becoming a member. Or, if this year has been especially tough for you, consider sharing this or any of the stories below. The Reader is growing every day, and that’s due in no small part to the support we receive from you, in whatever form that takes. So, without further ado, let’s bid the worst year of our lives farewell with a list of stories that chronicled it.

Top Local Stories

Good morning,

Today we have stories about OPS starting the new year with remote learning, the fatal shooting of an Omaha real estate agent and the beginning of vaccinations in Nebraska’s prisons.

In Omaha

  • Classes start Tuesday morning for Omaha Public Schools, with students learning virtually.
  • A conversation hosted by NOISE and community activist Ja Keen Fox focused on how Councilwoman Colleen Brennan was selected to fill Rich Pahl’s seat.
  • A man accused of fatally shooting an Omaha real estate agent hid the man’s body inthe garage crawl space of a rental home.

Around the State

  • Three weeks after the first COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Nebraska, state officials said more than 36,000 people have received their first dose.
  • Vaccinations for COVID-19 soon will begin in Nebraska prisons, with health-care workers expected to get the first shots later this week.
