Playhouse Awards Honor Exceptional Volunteers


One of the highlights every year at The Omaha Playhouse is the end of season Awards Night. It represents what lies at the heart of the Playhouse; people coming together and volunteering their time to create outstanding shows for audiences across the city. Everyone who has volunteered his or her time comes together to celebrate the year that was. This past season provided theatregoers with some truly memorable shows that will no doubt be represented well when TAG Award Nominations come out this week.

Overall, 7 productions were represented at the Omaha Playhouse Awards Night with August: Osage County winning the most awards with 5.

The Fonda/McGuire Awards, given out to the two most outstanding performances of the season, were given to Susie Baer Collins for playing Violet Weston in August: Osage County and Brian Zealand for Evil Dead: The Musical.

The Mary Peckham Awards for memorable feature performance in the musical category went to Charlotte Hedican for The Wizard of Oz and Steve Krambeck for Legally Blonde. The Play category saw awards go to Moira Mangiameli for August: Osage County and Ben Beck for boom.

The Barbara Ford Awards for outstanding supporting roles in a Musical were given to Sally Neumann Scamfer and Noah Diaz for The Wizard of Oz while the Play awards went to Laura Leininger for Recommended Reading for Girls and Jim McKain for August: Osage County.

Elaine Jabenis Cameo Awards for a Musical went out to Jodi Vaccaro for Legally Blonde and Anthony Clark-Kaczmarek for All Night Strut while the awards for a Play were presented to Mika Caplan for Recommended Reading for Girls and Bill Hutson for August: Osage County

The Bill Bailey Debut Awards went to Olivia Sather for August: Osage County and Jared Dailey for Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Other honors given out that night were the Trustee’s Award for distinguished service given to Playhouse Board Member Jim Eisenhardt, the President’s Award for extraordinary leadership given to Act II President Courtney Vacanti Birnstihl and box office volunteer Karen Casterline, and the Edward F. Owen Award given to The Mammel Foundation for their ongoing support of the Playhouse. Awards were also given out to stage managers, backstage crewmembers and front of house volunteers.

The evening concluded with excitement for next year’s season, which will be the last for Carl Beck and Susie Baer Collins.
