APMAArts presents Jeremy G Bells’ History Within, opening Thursday September 26.

Jeremy G. Bell is best known for his take on portraits in mediums of charcoal, acrylic, sharpie, oil paint and encaustic wax over wood. On occasion, he employs the use glitter to highlight his images.

Although visually complex, the portraits are typically nondescript. Images are created without logos or graphic illustrations that refer to who the person was in life. In striving for a simple image, Bell allows the viewer to extract a personal value, history and story of the subject.

“The Achiever” by Bell

When creating, Bell says he explores“Beauty, worth, and complexities of an individual life.” These images delve into the ideas surrounding the representation and perception of how we perceive, remember or identify with people.

The opening reception for History Within will be September 26, 5:00-7:00 p.m. with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. at APMA Arts, 1516 Cuming Street. The exhibit will continue through the end of the year. The gallery is open to the public Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. For more information email Jenny Gradowski at: jgradowski@alleypoyner.com.
