“There is a visceral sense of something beginning here,” says Florence Mill ArtLoft Director Linda Meigs of WoohYun Shim’s artistry, “Her work contemplates a philosophy of circulation and a cyclic system based on the idea of reincarnation.”  The 2010 BFA graduate of the School of Art Institute of Chicago and current MFA student at the University of Pennsylvania’s artist philosophy is deep, seeking to visually balance Eastern Buddhism thought and Western Abstract Expressionism.  The result is wholly rich and beautiful with bright colors and dramatic line and curious shapes, work that can be appreciated for its external as well as internal values in all cultures.  Her family is said to be around for the opening of their daughter’s first solo show, hailing all the way from South Korea.
