Break out the flowing white togas, gold bracelets and kohl eyeliner.  Ballet Nebraska transports audiences back to antiquity with “Cleopatra.” It’s the centerpiece of its mixed-repertory program, “Momentum.” Artistic Director Erika Overturff choreographed the piece and said it was inspired by the Egyptian Treasures exhibit currently on display in the Joslyn Art Museum.

Before Overturff started seriously choreographing the ballet, she did some research on ancient Egypt.

“I was so enthused to do this project. I dug into ancient Egyptian culture and artwork. And, of course, I researched Cleopatra’s story. I thought it was important to have a general knowledge of Egypt and Egyptian style in the back of my mind as I choreographed the ballet,” she said.

Overturff said other works on the program include “Dance Sport,” “Bacchanale Variations” and “Perpetuum Mobile.” She said there will be a reception after Friday’s performance for an additional $25.
