Josh Powell has made his name with his instantly recognizable cultural and familiar figures and forms in his large-scale paintings. With Borders and Fences, his style is said to have completely shifted to monochromatic, solid paintings with minimalistic tendency on smaller canvases. “Minimal art lets the artist escape from the over-populated world and express the basic. Is Powell cleaning out his catch-all, freeing his mind from the day-to-day madness, or is he embracing a new look on life, art and mind?” RNG owner Rob Gilmer wrote in the press release. “Less is more at this exhibition…Within these works, viewers will explore their own borders and fences. Will they set themselves free or corral their thoughts and tame themselves to a centered piece?” Pick Powell’s brain at the Art Talk Feb. 11 at noon at the gallery.
