If you love bright color and evocative imagery don’t miss Carol Summers: 61 Year Retrospective, opening Friday, May 24 at Gallery 72. The California based printmaker is a master practitioner of the oldest of fine print mediums, the woodcut. Simultaneously modernist and landscape referenced, his prints are known for their deeply saturated hues. He presents the natural world with a unique simplicity, mixing representation with geometric and organic shapes. Summers has received grants from the Italian Government, Tiffany, Fullbright and Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships, the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, and an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from his alma mater, Bard College. Widely represented in museum and private collections in the United States and abroad, the artist will be present at the opening, and will be discussing his work at the gallery talk on Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. The exhibition promises to be a visual feast to enjoy.
