Focusing on the emotionally charged relationships of the Maxon family, Fences “offers a brutally honest portrayal of the African-American experience.” John Beasley will reprise the lead role of the Maxon patriarch Troy, a trash collector, former baseball player and family man who is evaluating his life as a husband, a father and a citizen. A deeply flawed character, Troy “represents the struggle for justice and fair treatment of African-Americans in the 1950s.”
