Those who missed the opportunity to see Jill Anderson in Bronte at the Joslyn Castle back in 2011 will soon get a second chance. The William Luce play will be remounted at The Blue Barn Theatre for a limited engagement of only 4 performances. This play covers the Jane Eyre author Charlotte Bronte as she reflects on the many events that shaped her life. The 2011 production was extremely entertaining theatre to say the least. It will be interesting to see how Anderson attempts to re-create the show minus the charming Joslyn Castle atmosphere. Tickets can be found at bluebarn.org.
The college theatre scene will be pretty packed in the coming weeks with three productions across the area set to take off. UNO Theatre will present Steve Gooch’s Female Transport starting April 10th led by UNO veterans Kristin Tripe and Krystal Kelly. Director Dr. Doug Paterson directed the show previously in 1981, his first full production at the university. The shows promises to have another excellent set designed by Robbie Jones complete with a rocking mechanism that will simulate a ship at sea.
Iowa Western Community College will be mounting Synge’s Playboy of the Western World on April 4th for a two week run. Omaha theatre favorite and IWCC faculty member Moira Mangiameli takes the helm as director for a production that she has given high praise for. With this production along with Brigit St. Brigit’s productions and Max Sparber’s soon-to-be up and running Dreamland Ballroom Theatre getting ready for their debut show, it seems like every other week, another Irish play is being performed in the Omaha area. This descendant of Irish ancestors doesn’t mind one bit!
Creighton Theatre will also bring the Moliere classic Tartuffe to audiences April 11th.
Audition notice: The Book of Mormon will be auditioning in Omaha on April 1st. These auditions are for all current professional productions (Broadway, 1st National Tour, and Jumamosi Tour). All roles will be available to audition for. To submit a request for an audition email a headshot and resume to email@example.com by March 30th with ‘Omaha’ in the subject line.
As an active theatre practitioner, I had the opportunity to audition for them in Oklahoma City and it was a wonderful experience. Who knows, maybe you can be next person to join the Later Day Saints!
