The Midwest may be far from any ocean, but that isn’t stopping some people from showing their pirate spirits!

The eighth annual Midlands Pirate Fest is this weekend, May 30th and 30st in downtown Omaha. Located at their new “seaside” location at River City Star Landing on the Missouri riverfront, you can expect two days filled with elaborate costumes, sea shanties, swashbuckling, dancing and more.

The festivities will go from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days and will feature entertainment for children and adults alike. There will be lawn games, street theater and entertainment available for kids. Touring acts like the Bawdy Buccaneers of Des Moines and Captain Johnson’s Sideshow Circus will be performing. There will also be belly dancers, two different magic and illusion shows, stand up comedy, nautical tales and the Blue Rose mermaid in her lagoon to sing, joke, and entertain.

A costume contest for children and games of skill like knife throwing as well as a tattoo contest for adult will be held. A “theive’s market” full of merchants will also be available for attendees to explore. (canadianpharmacy365.net) These merchants will be selling jewelry and costuming, food, collectibles and souvenirs, weapons, and henna/body/face painting. There will also be plenty of pirate-themed food and drinks.

In addition to all the pirate-themed festivities, the public will be given access to discounted rides on the River City Star Riverboat Cruise through the event. These will run at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. each day. Discounted tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for military and kids under 13.

Admission to the Midlands Pirate Festival is $10 for adults and $5 for kids from 5 to 15. Children under 5 are free and active military personnel will receive a half-price discount. Parking will also be free. For location information see the River City Star website or call 402-342-7827.
