During this Holiday season artful gifts are always welcome. Original art work such as ceramics, paintings, sculpture, jewelry, limited edition photography, and more can be found at local Omaha galleries. Anderson O’Brien Fine Arts Gallery, Artists’ Cooperative Gallery, Dundee Gallery, and Modern Arts Midtown are but a few to check out. A unique option might be an artist’s book. Omaha artist and arts activist Sally Deskins had an early interest in writing. “I always journaled and enjoyed the creative artistic expression,” she said in a statement. The founder, editor, and curator of Les Femmes Folles, a blog focusing on the promotion and support of regional women artists, finds connection in other women’s work. “The Bell Jar, Go Ask Alice, and Crosses were all about a teen-age girl trying to make it through,” Deskins said. “They inspired me to keep writing.” Deskins own Les Femmes Folles, The Women, 2011 book, contains art images and quotes by over 100 women in art featured on Deskins’ blog. They are mostly from Omaha. “I would love to see Les Femmes Folles as a magazine, or zine,” Deskins said, “and eventually a women’s cooperative gallery in Omaha.” Sally Deskins will be showing new art work at the Star Deli Gallery in Benson, Feb. 1- 25, 2013.
