Against Me! w/ the Icarus Line, Sky Road Fly

The Slowdown, 729 North 14th St.

8 p.m., $13 in advance/$15 day-of-show, onepercentproductions.com

Against Me! shot out of Gainesville, Fla. on the strength of singer Tom Gabel’s guttural howling take of folk-punk. Since those early days, the band has evolved into a politically-engaged punk rock band that gives anthemic lift to its left-wing protest songs. Behind those songs, Gabel has also written plenty of material delving into his own personal experiences and feelings. It’s that side of Gabel that has come into greater view this year, as he announced plans to pursue gender reassignment surgery after years of struggling with gender dysphoria. Despite the oncoming change, the band prepares to continue on and play to its rabid fan base across the country.
