Will Wiesenfeld created the first Baths album, 2010’s Cerulean, in his bedroom in a matter of weeks, though the short creation of the album belied its obviously detailed composition. Baths quickly garnered a host of chillwave and bedroom electronica comparisons, though his clicking, chattering percussive tracks, coupled with his impressionistic, falsetto vocals helped Wiesenfeld craft his own singular track. Now Baths have issued a second album, Obsidian, which seemingly swaps out much of the first album’s sonic palette for a prettier hue of small-scale electronic pop. This time, it seems like more of Wiesenfeld is placed front and center on a batch of songs that seem to take buoyant and somber turns in equal measure.
