Bloc Party have survived the crushing wave of British music press hype that has killed previous English buzz acts and released their fourth album, simply titled Four, in 2012. It’s been a quick eight years since the band’s first album, Silent Alarm, but Bloc Party have already seemingly lived the entire life cycle of a band. Four finds the band reinvigorated and in a noisy frame of mind, chucking the growing Brit-pop sheen that has marked their work since Silent Alarm and that befits the band’s European festival-headlining stature. The move works in part because the messy, screw-it-all rock posturing is delivered by a skilllfully seasoned band that knows just when to punch a song into high gear. The best thing about this and the band’s other shows in the Midwest is that American audiences get to experience something English fans don’t — the chance to see Bloc Party in an club venue.
