Cayucas w/ JBM

The Waiting Room Lounge, 6212 Maple St.

9 p.m., $10, onepercentproductions.com

Cayucas craft the sort of indie pop that’s built for the summer. The Santa Monica, Calif.-based band formed as the solo project of songwriter Zach Yudin in 2011 under the name Oregon Bike Trails. Once Yudin began recruiting a backing band, he changed the name to Cayucas and

by 2012, the band had signed to indie label Secretly Canadian. The band entered the studio with labelmate and producer Richard Swift and emerged with their limber, buoyant debut album, Bigfoot. The sound sits somewhere in the indie rock wheelhouse between the Shins and Vampire Weekend. This is cheeky, upbeat pop songwriting with minimal pretension. It’s the slightly skittering rhythm that gives Cayucas an added dose of off-kilter charm, setting these propulsive, but midtempo songs on another level.
