Cheap Girls and Andrew Jackson Jihad w/ Laura Stevenson And The Cans, The Sidekicks, Roar!

The Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

9 p.m., $12 advance, $15 day-of-show, theslowdown.com.

Michigan trio Cheap Girls play the sort of fuzzy, hooky pre-Weezer power-pop that gained acclaim for bands like Superchunk and the Lemonheads. Ian Graham sings his way through early 20-something landmines while his bandmates keep the concise, crunchy guitar rock moving forward. The band hooked up with Against Me!’s Tom Gabel to produce their latest album,Giant Orange, which came out earlier this year. Meanwhile, Arizona’s Andrew Jackson Jihad are keeping alive the flame of folk-punk that Against Me! used to burn so brightly. The band, led by Sean Bonnette and Ben Gallaty, have attracted a rabid following of underground punk fans with their spirited, off-the-cuff performances.
