Utah-based quartet Desert Noises play a brand of indie rock perfect for the sort of big sky wilderness of Utah’s semi-arid landscape. The band travels from pastoral to jangly guitar rock that build in kaleidoscopic moments, rich in overlayed vocal harmonies. Guitars shoot up like towering cliffs while the vocals filter through as if filling a cavernous void. They fit into a whole cluster of current indie rockers that seem to bridge the psych-rock bride between Neil Young and the Beach Boys. Their 2011 debut album, Mountain Sea, is a seamless fit to any listener already listening to acts like Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses or Blitzen Trapper.
