Flogging Molly w/ Reverend Peyton & His Big Damn Band and The Killigans

Sokol Auditorium, 2234 South 13th St.

8 p.m., $20 in advance/$25 day-of-show, ticketmaster.com

Fronted by the Dublin-born Dave King, Flogging Molly have always seemed to be more connected to the true spirit of Ireland than many of their other Celtic punk contemporaries. That’s because when the Los Angeles-bred band pulls back on the punk tempos, it’s easy to see their love for Celtic folk music shine through. It’s that sophisticated connection to their lineage that connects the band to the Dubliners, the Cheiftains and the originators of the Celtic punk sound, the Pogues. While it’s the punk-pop energy that’s drawn the band its legion of green-clad fans, it’s the ability to transcend those trappings that truly put Flogging Molly in the upper echelon of Irish punk rockers.
