From There to Here: work by FLO OY Wong

RNG Gallery, 157 West Broadway, Council Bluffs

Reception 7-10p.m., exhibit thru April 8, 712.256.4140

Sunnyvale, California resident Flo Oy Wong was an artist-in-residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in 1996. Wong is known for her intricate narrative pieces made of rice sacks cloth, sequins, beads, old suitcases, scanned photographs, magazine text, Chinese funeral paper, U.S. flags, and threads made after interviews with “heroic people to explore disquieting matters that transform me and viewers to a place of healing, connecting and understanding.” Specifically for this Omaha exhibition she has created hand-sewn “art pies” honoring fascinating residents of Omaha including Bill Matthews of Opera Omaha, Patricia Barron of Big Mama’s, Ayman El Mohandes, physician at UNMC, Dixie Quick’s own Rene Orduna and RNG Gallery owner/curator Rob Gilmer. She will tell stories of her interviews at the art talk March 10, noon at the Gallery.
