Parquet Courts pair rat-a-tat drumming with thin strips of lo-fi guitar to create their own DIY angular basement punk. They sandwich their sound somewhere between the Fall, Wire, Sonic Youth, Television and the Undertones. There’s an attention to economic, melodic guitar parts that help songs stick in the head. The New York-based band is set to re-release their album Light Up Gold on What’s Your Rupture? in 2013. It’s a record that inhabits the history of the Big Apple’s punk history, while giving it their own vital pulse. They should pair well with Yuppies, who kick out their own angular guitar wreckage with a small dose of pop melody.
