Retox w/ Flesh-Eating Skin Disease and Video Ranger

Brothers Lounge, 3812 Farnam St.

9 p.m., $5 at the door

Retox members were all in other bands just like many other bands. Does it matter that they used to play in bands like the Locust, Head Wound City and Cattle Decapitation? If you ask Retox, the answer would be a resounding no. The same goes for any attempt to classify the band’s punchy, menacing attack. Sure there’s roots in hardcore punk rock and power violence but the band is just as likely to subvert the supposed limitations and boundaries of whatever box they might seem to fit in. What you should expect is a short, brutal punch of grinding, blistering guitar sounds and acidic verbiage spit into the microphone. It’s a return to musical primitivism as a war against cultural stagnation.
