The blues are alive and well this holiday season as blues guitarist Tab Benoit slides into the Midwest. The well-versed musician has built an expansive career based upon his endless dedication to the Delta blues. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Benoit has been exposed to that Southern style since he could speak. He began his career in 1991 after landing a contract with the Texas-based Justice Records and released a series of studio recordings. After Justice folded, he moved on to Vanguard Records and has jumped around ever since. With an astonishing 16 recordings under his belt, his latest, Medicine (Telarc Records), showcases his innate guitar skills and impressive talent for playing the blues. With three Grammy Award nominations and zero wins, perhaps this is his year. Benoit is joined by the popular Kris Lager Band to deliver a night of raw roots-rock (Kyle Eustice).

Tab Benoit with Kris Lager Band, December 13, at Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St., 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. Visit www.theslowdown.com for more information.
