Led by the core trio or Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder, Yeasayer came to attention while on tour with MGMT, just as MGMT blew up. While Yeasayer has yet to experience those highs, their fanbase has steadily grown since their 2007 start. Just when Yeasayer’s studious, but clubby mix of synth-pop, New Wave, Eastern raga, neo-psychedelic dance seems to be on the cusp of big-time success, they swerve away from the own known moves on their newly-released album Fragrant World. Gone is the caffienated high of tracks like 2010’s “Ambling Alp” and the Peter Gabriel-inspiried “O.N.E.”. Instead their new record sets many of the record’s tracks in a mid-tempo chill-out vibe. Whether this is just a new direction or a stylistic sidestep for the buzzed-about indie rock act, their shows still boast a hippie-meets-raver dance party aesthetic.
