Josh Homme has long been in a rare and enviable position with his band, the Queens of the Stone Age. His band is critically respected, but it’s also experienced major commercial success. The band is now beyond its major label days, giving Homme even more creative license. Homme’s stature in the musical world has also allowed him to tap tons of guest collaborators on various projects. That whole gamut of scenarios color the band’s 2013 release, … Like Clockwork, which indie label Matador Records released. The record is the first for the band since a hiatus that saw Homme form Them Crooked Vultures with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Grohl also drums on the new Queens album, which shows the band’s trademark riff-rock combining with new moves, including piano lines. It’s another great installment for the band, which should provide Stir Cove’s loudest summer show.
